    Plan Overview

The IBEW Local 701 Supplemental Unemployment Benefit (SUB) Fund is a welfare benefit plan established and maintained by the Board of Trustees to provide supplemental income to eligible participants during periods of unemployment.

The purpose of the SUB Fund is to supplement weekly State unemployment benefits for eligible covered employees when they are unemployed and otherwise meet Plan requirements. The Fund is financed entirely by employer contributions required under collective bargaining agreements. Benefits are paid from Fund assets in accordance with the Plan Document, Trust Agreement, and actions of the Board of Trustees.

  • Eligibility

    You must:

    • Be eligible for benefits under the IBEW Local 701 Welfare Fund for the same period.
    • Be unemployed and receiving State unemployment compensation for the week(s) claimed.
    • Be available for work and in compliance with Local Union out-of-work and referral procedures.
    • Submit a completed SUB Fund claim form with required documentation within Plan deadlines.

Availability for Work and Job Refusals

You are not eligible for SUB Fund benefits for any day on which you were:

    • Unavailable for work, or
    • Removed from the out-of-work book because you refused work or were unavailable for two out of three job offers.

Your eligibility for SUB Fund benefits will be reinstated after your next job assignment ends.

    Short-Call Refusals (Effective October 1, 2009)

Effective October 1, 2009, if you are offered and refuse a short-call, you will not be eligible for SUB Fund benefits for the duration of that call, as adopted by the Board of Trustees.

Claims must be submitted in accordance with Plan filing rules and deadlines.

  • Benefit Amount and Payment

    Benefit Amount

SUB Fund benefits are paid on a daily basis for each eligible day of unemployment.

    • The daily SUB Fund benefit is $30 per day, as established by the Board of Trustees.
    • Benefits are payable only for days in which you are unemployed, otherwise eligible under the Plan, and receiving State unemployment compensation.
    • If State unemployment benefits are reduced (for example, due to partial employment), SUB Fund benefits may be reduced accordingly.

SUB Fund benefits are considered taxable income and are reported by the Plan in accordance with applicable law.

  • Benefit Duration

    Benefit Duration

SUB Fund benefits are subject to annual and lifetime maximums:

    • You may receive benefits for up to 130 benefit days in a Plan Year.
    • There is a lifetime maximum of 260 benefit days payable from the SUB Fund.

Benefit days used in prior years count toward these limits. Once the applicable limits are reached, no further SUB Fund benefits are payable unless the Plan is amended or additional benefit days are authorized by the Board of Trustees.
