Member Assistance Program

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the IBEW Local 701 Members Assistance Program (MAP)?

The IBEW Local 701 Members Assistance Program (MAP) is committed to the wellbeing of members and eligible dependents. The MAP counselors are experienced licensed professionals who will:

  1. Help define what treatment is needed to help you with your problem.
  2. Assist with finding someone to provide that treatment to you.

You should contact the MAP if you wish to undergo in or out-patient treatment using a doctor or counselor you choose yourself.
The MAP staff is qualified to assess mental health, alcoholism, drug dependency and other problems. The MAP will refer you to doctors or counselors and, in some cases, community resources for actual treatment.

Call the MAP as a starting point to help identify what the problem is and learn how you can cope with or resolve it. We are here to help you.

What does it cost?

The Trustees of the IBEW Local 701 General Welfare Fun provide all of the services free of charge. If the plan does not provide benefits for your particular problem, the MAP will make every effort to help you find effective treatment at a cost you can afford.

Who can we help?

The MAP is available to assist Members, eligible dependents, and retirees.

What are the members' rights and responsibilities?

Members have the right to choose their own counselor or doctor. Our MAP Counselors will assist you to make sure you receive the best quality and proven treatment at an affordable price.*

*The MAP program will try to ensure that the referred provider is an in-network provider.

Is MAP a confidential resource?

The MAP is a confidential resource, as required by professional ethics and by law. No one at work or at home will know you have used MAP services, unless you tell them yourself or you give the MAP written permission to speak to a specific individual(s) as part of the treatment program. Information from the MAP cannot be released to anyone without your written consent, except in rare cases of extreme danger to yourself or others (including unreported child abuse).
